The company also holds exploration properties in Kenya. In Tanzania, Shanta operates the New Luika Gold Mine in the Songwe District and the Singida Gold Mine in the Ikungi District.
Role Overview
The Graduate Geologists will support exploration operations at New Luika Gold Mine and Singida Gold Mine. The role involves executing geological fieldwork, supervising sampling programs, collecting and analyzing geological data, and preparing technical reports while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive sampling schedules from the Exploration Geologist and supervise soil sampling, trenching, drilling, and rock exposure mapping.
- Collect, record, and capture geological data in both hard and digital formats.
- Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, and technical reports.
- Direct drilling locations and specifications in collaboration with the Drilling Supervisor.
- Conduct geological mapping to identify areas of mineral interest.
- Maintain accurate records of core recoveries, rig activities, surveys, mineralized zones, and drilling durations.
- Use GPS to locate and peg drill holes and trenches.
- Prepare samples for submission to assaying laboratories.
- Maintain accurate timesheets for all contractor-hire equipment.
Management Responsibilities
- Monitor work performed by contractors and casual employees.
- Track equipment performance to ensure production targets and value for money.
- Ensure fieldwork stays within budget and review worksheets before sign-off.
- Manage field consumables and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor Geo-Technicians and Field Assistants to ensure safety compliance.
- Conduct daily and weekly team meetings, providing regular feedback.
- Train team members on HSE procedures and sample collection SOPs.
- Conduct weekly verbal and quarterly formal performance reviews.
Teamwork & Relationships
- Set objectives and promote collaborative problem-solving within the team.
- Ensure adherence to company safety, health, and environmental policies.
- Contribute expertise to enhance team efficiency and exploration outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related field.
- Fieldwork experience is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of mapping, sampling, and data management techniques.
- Proficiency in GPS use and geological software is an added advantage.
- Strong organizational, reporting, and teamwork skills.
